The Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department has received accreditation by the S.C. Police Accreditation Coalition (SCPAC). The airport police department is the only aviation law enforcement agency currently state accredited in South Carolina.

The accreditation was approved Nov. 16 after the agency completed an extensive on-site assessment from the S.C. PAC Commission. The award certification was presented by the Accreditation Council on Dec. 14 in Columbia.

Chief of Police Doug Isley said, “The awarding of this accreditation is a remarkable achievement, only made possible because of the dedicated and committed staff and employees of the Aviation Authority Police Department. Congratulations goes out to them on this accomplishment. I am proud of this recognition.”

The airport police department was first accredited by the National Commission on Law Enforcement Accreditation (CALEA) in 1998.

“I am extremely proud of our police department and the men and women who dedicate themselves daily to keeping our customers and everyone who works in the airport safe and secure,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., Executive Director and CEO of the Aviation Authority. “This high honor of state accreditation signifies the department’s commitment to professionalism and to excellence in public service to our community.”
