Hampton County has announced the hiring of Jarvis R. Sims as its new county administrator. Sims will begin his duties Oct. 15.
Sims brings more than 20 years of progressive experience in municipal government to Hampton County. Most recently, Sims served as city manager for the City of Greensboro, Georgia. Before that, he spent a year as interim county manager for Newton County, Georgia. He also held several positions with the City of Augusta, Georgia, including interim administrator and deputy administrator, where he oversaw a budget of more than $900 million and approximately 2,800 employees.
Prior to that, he served as a crime analyst and senior management analyst for the City of East Point, Georgia.
"I am honored and excited to join Hampton County as its new county administrator," said Sims. "This is a great community with great people, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead it. I look forward to working alongside County Council, our dedicated employees, and our residents to deliver the strong service and accountability our taxpayers deserve."
As county administrator, Sims will serve as chief administrative officer of the county. He will oversee daily operations and carry out the policies and directives of County Council. He will also work with local, state, and national elected officials to ensure county departments are operating efficiently and effectively to serve the taxpayers of Hampton County.
"Hampton County has carefully searched for the right person to lead our county government, and we are confident we found that person in Mr. Sims," said Hampton County Council Chairman Roy Hollingsworth. "His experience, his record of working with elected officials, and his commitment to serving residents make him an excellent fit. Council is looking forward to a steady, productive partnership, and we are eager to see the county move forward under his leadership."
Sims holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University and a Master of International Business from Mercer University. He has also served as an adjunct professor of business at Atlanta Metropolitan State College, Westwood College, and DeVry University.
