The jackets are plaid but the power is green: Two Clubhouse Badges to the RBC Heritage golf tournament are up for grabs at www.GreenPowerGolf.com. The badges allow weeklong admittance to the tournament, to be held April 15-21 at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, along with entry to the Clubhouse, access to the restaurant and pro shop, plus access to Heritage Pavilion and two on-course hospitality venues.
The RBC Heritage sponsored by Boeing is known for its iconic plaid jackets, and after an 11-year partnership, it’s also known for teaming up with Palmetto Electric Cooperative and Santee Cooper to power the event with Green Power. The Green-e certified power is generated in South Carolina by renewable resources such as solar, wind, and methane gas created naturally by decomposing garbage. Santee Cooper now has six landfill methane gas stations in commercial operation along with a wind power project and solar arrays generating power for the grid.
In 2001, Santee Cooper became the first utility to generate Green Power and offer it for sale in the state, and Palmetto Electric Cooperative signed on as one of the first cooperatives to offer it to members. Green Power meets the environmental and consumer protection standards set forth by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions.
The RBC Heritage is the only PGA Tour event in S.C., played in Hilton Head since 1969. Proceeds from the tournament benefit hundreds of nonprofit organizations. The Clubhouse Badges will be given to one entrant drawn on March 27. --Leigh Savage
