MUSC Health-University Medical Center Tops U.S. News List of SC’s Best Hospitals

Mar 07, 2023 05:12PM ● By Donna Isbell Walker

U.S. News & World Report has released its rankings of the top hospitals in the country, as well as each state and metro area’s best health care facilities.

For South Carolina, the magazine evaluated 89 hospitals, eight of which made its list of the best. The MUSC Health-University Medical Center tops the list for the Palmetto State.

According to the magazine, the rankings look at two subcomponents: specialty rankings and procedure and condition ratings. Specialty rankings are for life-threatening or rare conditions that require highly specialized treatments and hospitals that specialize in treating high-risk cases.

The Best Hospitals procedure and condition ratings focus on more common procedures and conditions such as hip replacement or heart failure.

In addition, the magazine ranks the top hospitals in each metro area.
