The city of North Charleston invites residents and visitors to celebrate the opening of the new Carner Avenue Wellness Campus and participate in a City Council in the Community meeting on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at 2920 Carner Ave.
The evening will feature facility tours, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and opportunities for residents to engage directly with local leaders.
The event will begin with a Carner Avenue Senior Center Open House from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where attendees can explore the center’s amenities, meet staff, and enjoy refreshments.
At 5:30 p.m., the community is invited to attend the official North Charleston Community Wellness Center ribbon cutting, marking the opening of a new space dedicated to promoting health, fitness, and overall well-being.
The Wellness Center was funded and constructed by the South Carolina Ports Authority through as part of a community mitigation agreement for the construction of the Navy Base Intermodal Facility.
The agreement, negotiated by the Chicora-Cherokee Neighborhood Association, the Union Heights Community Council, the Lowcountry Alliance for Model Communities, and the Metanoia Community Development Corporation, reflects a significant investment in community health infrastructure and quality of life improvements for North Charleston residents.
The facility stands as a key component of the broader Carner Avenue Wellness Campus and represents the continued impact of public partnership in delivering neighborhood resources.
The evening will conclude at 6:30 p.m. with North Charleston City Council in the Community, providing residents the opportunity to meet elected officials, including Mayor Reggie Burgess, ask questions, and engage in conversations about city initiatives and neighborhood priorities.
