Merle Johnson

Merle Johnson serves as the Economic Development executive director for Charleston County Economic Development. Johnson, an economic development professional with 20 years of experience, previously served in multiple leadership roles with Charleston County Economic Development for over seven years. Johnson returned to Charleston County after serving as the executive director of the Orangeburg County Development Commission (OCDC) for the past two years. Prior to his leadership in Orangeburg, Johnson was the director of economic and community development for the City of Greenville. In his previous stint with Charleston County Economic Development, Johnson held key positions including deputy director, director of operations, and director of business development.
