Participants and volunteers are invited to the 7th Annual LOWVELO ride on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, to raise money for lifesaving cancer research at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center in South Carolina.

The goal is simple: raise money to eradicate cancer.

Almost 2,000 cyclists from across the Lowcountry and beyond will take to the roads on one of five routes of various distances.

There are also options to cycle on a stationary bike, do a virtual ride, or volunteer, allowing people of all ages and fitness levels the opportunity to participate.

This year’s ride will bring a display of endurance, community spirit and hope as participants pedal through Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms.

Every dollar raised directly supports critical research at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, helping to advance new treatments and provide hope to those affected by cancer.

“We ride for every patient, survivor, caregiver and loved one touched by cancer,” said LOWVELO event director, Chris Winn. “LOWVELO represents what makes the Lowcountry so special – community, compassion and the power to make a difference.”

The longer routes (23-, 50- and 80-mile) will start at Brittlebank Park, travel across historic Charleston, up and over the Ravenel Bridge and out to Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms.

The two longer routes will then continue out into the Francis Marion Forest where they’ll make a loop and come back to finish on Isle of Palms.

The shorter 7- and 14-mile family-friendly Island Ride will start and end on Isle of Palms, where everyone from all routes will join in to celebrate and honor cancer survivors and those who have been lost to the disease.

Residents and visitors may notice temporary traffic changes and increased activity along popular routes during the event.

A rolling lane closure throughout downtown and across the Ravenel Bridge will allow riders more room and safety and minimize the impact on local neighborhoods.

LOWVELO supports a variety of high-risk, high-reward cancer research projects as well as fellowships and scholarships to help train the next generation of cancer researchers.

Since its inception in 2019, LOWVELO has raised more than $2.9M for cancer research at Hollings Cancer Center.

With more than 230 faculty cancer scientists from 20 academic departments, MUSC Hollings Cancer Center has an annual research funding portfolio of more than $50 million and sponsors more than 200 clinical trials across the state.

Hollings specialists include surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, psychologists and other clinical providers equipped to provide the full range of cancer care from diagnosis to survivorship.

Dedicated to preventing and reducing the cancer burden statewide, the Hollings Office of Community Outreach and Engagement works with community organizations to bring cancer education and prevention information to affected populations throughout the state.
