The Courage Center (TCC) is the only Recovery Community Organization in South Carolina that focuses specifically on adolescents ages 14-18, emerging adults ages 19-26, and their families. TCC offers quality, no-cost, peer-led substance misuse prevention and support programs and services, provides recovery coach training and certification, engages in community outreach and education, and advocates on relevant policy.
TCC is not a treatment center. TCC utilizes peer support and evidence-based programs to help young people and their families in the prevention and escalation of harmful substance use and recovery from addiction. Our staff and coaches maintain partnerships with vetted individuals and organizations along the entire continuum of recovery-oriented systems of care. TCC frequently helps individuals navigate their options with treatment centers, withdrawal management facilities, and other available resources.
The most critical issue for teens and young adults in achieving long-term recovery is how to avoid returning to use in the weeks, months, and years that follow. Recovery support services, delivered by trained peer coaches who are in recovery, help individuals and families initiate, stabilize, and sustain recovery from substance misuse and addiction.
Among TCC's outreach efforts is the Courage Over Stigma Campaign, which works to reduce the stigma associated with substance misuse and substance use disorder. Shame can reduce the willingness of individuals to seek help for substance use disorder, which is a chronic brain disease, not a weakness of character.
The Courage Center was founded in 2016 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit headquartered in Lexington, South Carolina. Reach us at (803) 369-3905 or visit CourageCenterSC.org.
