United Community Bank Moving Corporate Headquarters to Greenville

United Community Bank, one of the largest financial institutions in the Southeast, announced plans to locate its corporate headquarters in Greenville and expand area operations to support its overall growth strategy.

The $24.8 million investment is expected to create 227 jobs in the Palmetto State.

Founded in 1950 in Blairsville, Ga., United Community Bank has over $18 billion in assets and 160 branches across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, including 34 branches in the Palmetto State.

In 2012, the bank began building its executive presence in Greenville County and now has three office locations in downtown Greenville apart from its branch network, and nearly 290 employees.

United Community Bank’s new downtown facility, to be located at 200 East Camperdown Way near Falls Park and the Reedy River, will serve as the bank’s corporate headquarters. It will also house a retail branch.

“We are pleased to establish a permanent, long-term presence in Greenville as part of our growth strategy,” said United Community Bank Inc. Chairman and CEO Lynn Harton. “As we expand across the Southeast, we continually evaluate the right solutions for the future of our company and see this investment as a significant step toward preserving the special culture we’ve built over the last 70 years.”

He added, “We remain committed to all communities across our footprint and look forward to being a contributor to business growth across the entire region.”

United’s geographic footprint now includes Florida under the Seaside Bank and Trust brand.

Services include a full range of consumer and commercial banking products such as specialized lending, mortgage, advisory services, treasury management and wealth management.

Respected national research firms consistently recognize United for its customer service, including J.D. Power, which has awarded United the highest customer satisfaction score in the Southeast for six out of the last seven years.

“It is a testament to the overall excellence of our state when a company decides to establish their headquarters in South Carolina. We welcome United Community Bank to their new home and celebrate the 227 jobs they are bringing to the Greenville community," said South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster.

“United Community Bank has been an excellent, long-term partner to the city of Greenville. United’s expanded commitment and decision to make Greenville its headquarters affirms the work we’ve done to retain and attract strong corporate citizens,” said Greenville Mayor Knox White.

Today, United has 2,419 employees across its footprint.

The bank has been honored for the third consecutive year by American Banker and Best Companies Group as one of the 2020 Best Banks to Work For, and Forbes magazine named United to its “America’s Best Banks” list in 2020.

The state’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project and awarded Greenville County a $750,000 Set-Aside grant for related project costs.

“Since 2012, United Community Bank has demonstrated a strong commitment to Greenville County and our state by steadily expanding its services and operations here,” said Greenville County Council Chairman and Greenville Area Development Corporation Board Member Willis Meadows. “County Council has worked diligently to ensure a favorable business climate which enables quality companies like United to thrive here. This expansion and establishment of United's new headquarters in Greenville confirms that our economic development strategies continue to pay dividends.”
