Turner Padget Celebrates 90th Anniversary

Turner Padget celebrates 90 years of practice and client service this year, marking a new era for the firm and its continued growth. Founded in 1929, Turner Padget has grown from a solo law practice to one of the Southeast’s most connected law firms with more than 70 attorneys providing services in South Carolina, Georgia, and their surrounding states.

“We are proud to have been so deeply rooted in South Carolina for generations and are thrilled to continue the firm’s growth in Georgia and throughout the region,” said C. Pierce Campbell, chief executive officer of Turner Padget. “While we opened our doors nine decades ago, our core values and rich history remain the same. With some of Turner Padget’s earliest attorneys still with the firm and fresh new talent constantly joining, we have become the single source for our clients’ legal needs through our diverse range of practice areas, helping them run and grow their business in the Southeast.”

Founded by Nathaniel A. Turner 90 years ago, the firm opened its first office and general law practice in Columbia on May 1, 1929. Later, Fletcher Padget, Harrell Graham, and E.W. Laney joined the firm and catapulted its growth throughout the latter half of the 20th century. In 1984, the firm opened its first satellite office in Florence and continued to expand across South Carolina by opening offices in Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and Greenville in the 1990s and 2000s. In 2017, Turner Padget opened its first offices outside of South Carolina in Augusta and Martinez, Ga.

In addition to its regional expansion, Turner Padget now has 170 employees, 31 different practices, and seven offices across South Carolina and Georgia along with strategic alliances in Florida and North Carolina. In 2017, Turner Padget launched its Palmetto Propeller initiative, which provides legal services to startups and small businesses in the Southeast at no cost. Turner Padget also recently underwent a rebrand and website redesign to embrace the firm’s modern identity, maintain its history, and reflect on the early values instilled by its founders, including a commitment to exceeding client expectations.

Because Turner Padget has grown alongside South Carolina and its neighboring states since 1929, it has established practice areas to meet the growing needs of the region. The firm also works with clients in a variety of industries prevalent in the Southeast, including banking and finance, construction, energy, health care, hospitality, insurance, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, real estate, retail, and trucking and transportation.

To show its appreciation for the region, Turner Padget attorneys consistently give back to the communities in which they live and work by leading and supporting numerous civic and philanthropic organizations throughout the region.
