Governor Henry McMaster announced that Hartley Powell will continue serving as the director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR). Powell was first appointed to his current position by former Governor Nikki Haley in November of 2016. Prior to becoming director of SCDOR, Powell was principal of the accounting and professional service firm KPMG and served for ten years at the South Carolina Department of Commerce.

“The Department of Revenue is in the customer service business, and it has never served South Carolinians better or more efficiently than it has under Hartley Powell,” said Gov. Henry McMaster.

“I appreciate Governor McMaster's confidence and leadership, and I remain committed to serving the citizens of South Carolina by providing fair, efficient, and secure services to meet taxpayer needs,” said Powell.

In FY17, SCDOR processed over five million tax returns and, keeping in line with the agency-wide focus on timeliness and efficiency, 69 percent of those returns were completed online.

The agency’s call center received and serviced more than 560,000 calls from taxpayers in FY18 and more than 228,000 users have registered on the agency’s free online tax portal MyDORWAY.
