Passengers traffic at Charleston International Airport rose 15 percent in August, continuing the steady climb that has characterized CHS’ growth for much of the last decade.

“We’re fortunate in the Lowcountry to have a robust and growing business community supported by powerhouses like Boeing, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo alongside a burgeoning tech sector and Charleston’s vibrant tourism industry. These two forces have helped fuel our growth at CHS,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority.

In August:

- Enplanements rose 14.9 percent from 181,875 in August 2017 to 208,992 last month.

- Deplanements rose 15.6 percent from 183,462 people in August 2017 to 212,019 last month.

So far this year, a total of 2,997,826 people have flown in and out of the airport. That’s 12.4 percent higher than the same eight months in 2017. With four months left in 2018 the airport is poised to top 4 million passengers. Last year, 3.99 million passengers were recorded at the airport.

Charleston International Airport is served by eight airlines: Delta, American, Southwest, Frontier, Allegiant, United, JetBlue, and Alaska. Combined, the airlines fly nonstop to 30 airports and 25 cities in the United States.
