Charleston Fire Chief Speaking At Small Business Lunch

The King Street Marketing Group and Halls Management Group announce Daniel M. Curia, the new chief of the Charleston Fire Department, as the guest speaker Thursday, Oct. 4 at Small Business Lunch at Halls Signature Events.

Curia was chosen from more than 100 applicants to fill the post previously held by Chief Brock, who retired last year. He began his new position in July and oversees a force of more than 350 professional first responders.

Curia previously served as fire chief for the city of Durham, N.C. He has 28 years of experience in the fire service, including 15 years as a chief officer.

He served as a battalion fire chief from 2003 to 2008 and as an assistant fire chief from 2008 to 2010. He served as deputy fire chief from 2010 to 2013, until being named fire chief for the city of Durham.

Curia has also served as a firefighter (1990-1997), fire technician (1998-1999), and fire captain (1999-2003) with the city of Durham Fire Department.

He holds a master's degree from Grand Canyon University, and a bachelor's degree from Shaw University. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program and achieved a chief fire officer designation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.

Tickets are $31 per person for a three-course meal prepared by executive chef Matt Greene. A full-service cash bar is available. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is served promptly at noon. Seating is limited.
