Tommy Baker, owner and president of Baker Motor Company, with dealerships in Charleston, S.C. and Wilmington, N.C., announced that the company has completed the purchase of Rick Hendrick Alfa Romeo of North Charleston. The franchise will now operate as Alfa Romeo of Charleston and has officially opened its doors as a Baker Motor Company dealership.

Previous operations at 8355 Rivers Avenue in North Charleston have been permanently relocated to 1501 Savannah Highway in Charleston, now operating under the same roof as Maserati of Charleston.

“I was thrilled to get a call from Alfa Romeo and have the opportunity to bring this incomparable brand to our luxury automotive campus in West Ashley,” said Baker. “Alfa Romeo is an impressive Italian brand owned by the same company as Maserati, so it’s a natural fit to join Maserati here at Baker Motor Company. Alfa Romeo has a great line up like the Giulia that was recently named the 2018 Motor Trend Car of the Year. From sports cars to sport utility vehicles and sedans, there’s something for everyone starting at $38,000.”

All employees from Rick Hendrick Alfa Romeo of North Charleston have been invited to join the Baker Motor Company team at Alfa Romeo of Charleston. David Coyle, general manager of Baker Motor Company, will oversee the new dealership.

Baker Motor Company, now in its 30th year, is the largest privately-owned automobile dealer group in South Carolina. With the addition of Alfa Romeo, Baker Motor Company’s robust and diverse vehicle offerings now encompass 14 world-class automotive brands.

Baker continues to fuel the company’s growth and entrance into new markets with acquisitions, land purchases, and expansions. The company currently has several new facility construction projects underway including Porsche Charleston, BMW of Wilmington (N.C.), and Porsche Wilmington (N.C.). Baker Motor Company also recently announced the purchase and development of 13 acres in Summerville’s Nexton community.
