Mount Pleasant–based publishing company Palmetto Publishing Group, a division of Arcadia Publishing and The History Press, was awarded the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for South Carolina. This award is presented to the most ethical businesses across every state in America.

A company should demonstrate its commitment to high ethical standards of behavior and provide documentation in the following categories:

* Management Practices

* Customer/Vendor/Supplier/Shareholder Relations

* Marketing/Advertising/Communications/Sales Practices

* Reputation within Industry and Community

Michael Shannon, chief development officer, says, “We're ecstatic and honored to win this award. We founded Palmetto Publishing Group on customer service, and every team member we have goes above and beyond. Giving back is also really important us. Over the last year, we have donated hundreds of books to Title 1 schools, fed and ate with the less fortunate on Christmas Day, and served on the board for Jerry Zucker Ride for Hope and helped raise over $59,000 for local cancer charities. I could not be more proud of our team!”

Palmetto Publishing Group was acquired by Arcadia Publishing and The History Press in April of this year. Michael Shannon II, founder, stayed onboard to oversee its growth.
